Best (any?) 245 45 16 replacements

I was previously running Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires in 245 45 16 size on my 9 inch wide rear wheels. Absolutely love them for the local So Cal canyons and that they had a decent (200) tread wear rating. As most of you know they are no longer available. What are any of you running now as a substitute for a high performance tire in that size? Thanks in advance for your input.

So for the Toyo choices - for a car that is only driven in the canyons on the weekends in dry weather - which one is the stickier of the two?

They supposedly have the same tread compound. The RA-1s will reportedly maintain the grip till the rubber is gone. I can verify that as being true. The down side of the RA-1s tread is it has two depths. So when the tread is half gone, it is more like a track tire. That was never a problem for me, however, as I ran mine almost like slicks on the road. The R888s have had issues with the tread heat cylcling if they got hot. I can't imagine you could get a R888 hot enough to do that on the street, however. Some report the R888 to be noisy.

I have used Nankang AS-2 Plus Sportnex, readily available and cheap, was truly suprised how good grip they have. Bought them just to test on my 924 2.6 16v turbo (500+ hp), with LSD I can drive nicely.

Has anyone else tried out the Advan A052 yet? I'm running 16x8 front and 16x9 rears. Ideally I'd like 225-50 for the front and 245-45 for the rear. I'm currently using R888R, but the fronts only come in 225-45 which is a bit short. The grip is excellent, but I'm not sure if the tire is overkill for my driving. My spirited driving is on socal canyon roads, and after 5000 miles on my first set of R888R the rears are almost smooth. The A052 in 225-50 & 245-45 are about $180 more than a set of R888R in 225-45 & 245-45 on tire rack, but if they last twice as long (treadwear rating of 200 for the a052 vs 100 for the R888R) then it's easily worth the cost. How many (canyon/commuting) miles are people getting on RA-1s before they're done? Those are even more expensive than the a052 at about $950 per set on tire rack, but if they last 10k miles or more with similar performance to the R888R than I'd be willing to consider them as well.

The first set of RA-1s I had lasted about 10K miles which included dozens of auto crosses and around 10 track days. I finally retired the fronts after I realized they were 9 years old, even thought they still had some tread left. My light weight car is very easy on tires so I will defer to others on longevity. RA-1s are my street tire of choice, HOWEVER, they are not a good choice for cold or wet weather.
