Restoration Options in Texas Region

Hello Pelicans,

I'm starting to consider doing a fairly extensive restoration of my 74 911 Targa and wanted to solicit advice from this forum about the best restoration shop options in the Texas area. I picked it up for a song in 2014 just before values on all the air-cooled stuff took off. It's currently in good "driver" shape, still presents very well and draws a lot of compliments, but I want to put it back to an original period correct shade of paint, restore the interior, refresh the suspension, and do a thorough mechanical freshening (reseal, possible rebuild, trans rebuild for sure) to make it more rewarding to drive.

It's not an original car (the original 2.7 was swapped with a Bosch equipped 3.2 at some point in the 80s) so it leaves me some latitude to not worry about a slavish, concours-style restoration. Might even consider backdating it but still debating that one.

I know Einer's Garage in Houston has a good reputation and also Jones Autowerks in San Antonio, but who else should I be considering?

Werks 11 is in Temple and is worth looking into.

+1 on Werks 11. Also Jeff's Resurrections in Taylor.

Both do excellent work, but expect to be put in the queue with either of them.

Thanks to all who responded. I wasn't aware of Werks 11 but will definitely check them out.

The time issue isn't much of a deterrent for me as I've just kicked off a restoration of my 61 Corvette and that is going to take a lot of time and attention itself, but I would like to start moving in the same direction on the Targa.

I don't have any current knowledge of Jones in San Antonio but I believe Bob Jones passed away a few years ago. Just FYI. I know Julian (Werks 11) and Jeff (Jeff's Resurrections) and both a good. I think Julian just does Porsche, Jeff does various makes.

David Moore at Moorespeed in Austin is very good too, I think his interest is more towards mechanical rather than cosmetics. I've heard of another shop in Austin recently, I'll try to post that but need to check a little more.

Bob Jones is still around, although he no longer does restoration work. His father Bill passed away five or six years ago.

Another Houston option that is highly respected and I've used in the past is Rennsport in Sealey.

They do not do paint and interior, but there are some excellent body and upholstery shops in Houston that I would be happy to recommend.

I can also vouch for Rennsport in Sealy. They did some great work on my 82SC years ago. I currently use Einar’s Garage for the SC and my daughter’s 07 Cayman. I would be interested in upholstery shop recommendations in Houston. Thanks.

++1 for Rennsport, great people, very capable and very competitive pricing. But, as noted, they don't do interiors or body work.

In Austin, TPWS is the go-to for a classic Porsche only shop, but I am not sure if they do body/paint.
