"hot" wire to cold start valve?
I have a question about the "hot" wire to the cold start valve on my SC. Is this wire "hot" all the time or only when the starter motor is engaged? Currently, I have the wire connected to a source that is "hot" while the engine is running.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking at the schematic for the 82SC on the pelican web site. the cold start valve looks like it is only active during starting a cold engine. If the engine is warm/hot and it is started the thermal switch opens and removes the ground path for the cold start valve. If you have the 12 volts supplied to the cold start valve all the time then it would be passing fuel all the time until the engine warms up and the thermo switch opens. This would have you running a rich mixture for quite a while and not very fuel efficient.

Pat,
So you are saying that the cold start valve should only be providing fuel while the starter motor is turning the engine over? If this is true, where would be good spot to pick up the "hot"? Thanks,

If you were to look at the 1982SC schematic The solenoid would be providing battery voltage through the relay contacts of the solenoid. Granted this is for an 82SC, I would have to look at schematics for the 77/78 to be sure if it is the same.

it looks like there is a wire to be attacched to the starter, thru a 15amp fuse. am i reading this right?

Where is the 15Amp fuse I don't see it in the starter solenoid circuit.

The 15a is the contact number on the starter and has nothing to do with indicating a 15AMP fuse. The 15a is where you would get thepower for the start valve.

Cold Start Valve
Kemo,
I also have a '78SC. Pat is correct about CSV being controlled by the thermo switch. When the engine is cold, the thermo switch will supply power to CSV at start for a brief moment only. Once the engine is warm, the thermo switch will be open and cut off any power to the CSV. So when you start the engine (warm), the CSV does not squirt fuel to the chamber. |
