1968 911 Targa -- 2.4T MFI installation

Hi,

I am considering purchasing a 2.4 MFI to install in my 68 911 Targa in order to replace a very old, worn out and leaking 2.0E motor.

My question is:

What types of issues will I encounter doing this upgrade? From what I know or have been told:

* engine will mate with a 901 transmission

* I will need to install a new fuel pump compatible with the MFI

The grey areas that I know of and need more clarification on:

*Oil cooler/tank hoses
* electrical harness
* anything else I am not aware of?

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. .

Thanks,
Alan

Hi,
I put an MFI motor in a carb car and that i can think of, the only things that you'll run into are: running a fuel return line back to the electric fuel pump/tank, and probably swaping out the oil tank for a later one where the S hose pushes on. The motor to body seal in the back will have to be trimmed so that the drive belt doesn't rub on it and you will need to mount the fuel filter/cold start assembly on the left side out of the way of the decklid hinge. Deffinately replace all of the fuel lines and the pump drive belt while the motor is out. This is about all i can think of right now, if you run into anything weird, just add it to this thread.

Remember my rule: Take how long you think it will take and triple it, Take how much you think it will cost and double it.

Thanks Paul, I had to create another account due to password problems (reset the password and it wouldnt acccept the password it gave me) so I am not using arringto any longer.

I got the motor and everything you said of course was correct. I was wondering if you had any recommendations on running the line to the tank. Does the line have to be metal? I have never run a fuel line so I am a bit paranoid about doing it.

Also, is there a return fuel connection on the 68 fuel tank? Or will I need to upgrade to a later tank?

The gentleman who sold me the motor was nice enough to throw in fuel filter and what appears to be a fuel pump. .

I am currently looking for a later year oil tank as well. .

Thanks again for your help Paul.
