my take on 911r / R Gruppe lightweight hot rod

Figured I was far enough along to finally start a thread on this build. Most of the 911 guys might not know me as I have not posted much in here.

Here is a picture of my backdated 930 I just finished

So this all started when my buddy Brendon (IMR_Merlin) came to visit me for Turbopalooza last year. After consuming my first bottle of Kettle, I somehow agreed to purchase a 1979sc from him that was sitting around for quite some time.

My plan was the purchase a airline ticket from NJ to Boston, then drive the car home 7.5 hours. Now, driving a car home 7.5 hours that has not been on the road for 10+ years was not the smartest idea, but I figured if it made it, then I had purchased a decent car, if not, it would make for one hell of a story

Here is what I started with

This car made it home 7.5 hours, with not a drop of oil on the motor, zero smoke, and zero hesitation...

My goal is to build a 2200-2300 pound car with roughly 200hp

First day of tear down and found this little guy right up by the steering wheel

I have torn down about 5 of these cars now, and I have to say, this was by far the worse. Every single nut and bolt fought me till the end

first thing was to get the new latch panel in

Okay, back to the front for a minute. I decided to remove the impact bumper mounts, 1. cause they are heavy, 2. there was some rust I wanted to tackle up there.

so, this was not on my list of **** to do, but after removing the rubber sill, rust, paint, and body filler came with it! I should have peeled the other way

quarter panels were a mess, so off they came. Decided to go with full fiber quarters. I was pleasantly surprised at how well these fit

back to the motor. I thought long and hard, but I figured after driving 7.5 hours and not leaking a single drop of oil or smoke, perfect compression and leakdown numbers, just to leave the big port 3.0 longblock alone.

While motor is out, I decided to replace as many seals as possible and that I could access. I also replaced all the oil lines and hardware

I made the decision to run a port matched Jenvey ITB EFI set up and these things are amazing!

I did not have any problems what so ever shifting, but figured while it was out, why not go through it!
