Where'e the scarvenger pump?
Hi,
Just wonder if anyone knows where is the pump on the 930? I understand it is supposed to be connected from the turbo oil outlet, but the PO seems to have disconnected that whole "circuit" so I'm trying to recreate it. On a similar note, how does the oil get fed back to the oil tank? thanks... |
I don't know much about turbo's but the scavenger pump on a NA 911 engine is within the engine case. If you pull off the sump plate, the scavenger pump is the case that is attached to the oil pickup tube (the large tube right underneath the sump plate

YEs, that's right. THe "scavenge" pump is also the oil pump. A 911/930 oil pump has two sides. One to pump oil from the tank and through the oiling system and another that "scavenges" up the oil from the case and back into the oil tank.
Are you saying the turbo oil lines have been disconnected? I'm sure someone can post where they go to... |
The oil pump has 2 sections, the rear section scavenges(sucks) the oil from the bottom of the crankcase. The front portion is the pressure pump. Look in the red circle for the oil pump.

From the turbo the oil goes forward to a pump that is driven by the left (#1) side cam. A hard line then wraps around the front of the engine, going up over the transmission. It then changes into a soft line that attaches it to the oil tank

What are those lines coming out of the breather cover there?

5axis - ur the man! Thanks for the picture!
Where does the soft line connect to the oil tank? Is there an opening at the top / side? Now I can begin my mission to re-create this whole setup. Really don't understand why the PO disconnected / removed them... |
