1976 911 Targa top pin cover replacement
Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to replace the plastic pin covers for the targa top? They have four ribs, which lock into four grooves on the pin. Thanks in advance.

Thanks BlueSkyJaunte. I'll give it a try. The link was very helpful also.

Yes, it works. The referenced link is from when I asked the same question.

From that same thread...
Another way that works is to use a hair dryer or heat gun, particularly if you have them partly on and can't get them on further OR off (ask me how I know!).
Just heat them and push right on - the silicone grease beforehand is a good idea too. (I got this tip courtesy of Dan at Cars Inc.)

I simply drilled a 1/16" hole at the tip of the plastic pin. Half the battle is the air you trap in the plastic that prevents the piece going on easily. This is exacerbated by the use of silicone/grease etc.

I use the hot water and lube and a deep well socket, 1/2" i think to push the sleeve on. The socket is big enough to slip over the shaft but catches on the rim of the plastic cover and a few taps with a rubber mallot puts it on.
