Show me your gauges.

I am thinking about some interior love over the winter/spring. I want to update my 85mph speedo but donn't want it to look fresh with the others still old.

Looking at N.Hollywood right now, wanted to see what people have done to freshen old gauges.

I want to keep it simple and clean, maybe LED lighting.

So please show me what you have done.

Thanks,

Have them add a volt meter right into the bottom of the tachometer. It is right in front of you, and looks like what the factory should have done. And get a calibrated oil temp gauge. You will likely need a new sender for that.

I can't find the photo of my instruments right now, but the volt meter right in front of my face is great. I KNOW if the alternator is charging right, and most important, if it drops to zero, I have a broken fan belt and so shut down the engine ASAP. That has never happened to me, but it is always a worry.

I should have had them do that on mine...

Geronimo, the green faces may not be appropriate for your later MY car, but here are mine in a '73:

Yea, I may not sway far from the stock style. I like the clean simple feel. I like the volt idea, that's a pretty good idea.

Has anyone used Nhollywood, I remember people having good things to say about them

When my odo reset gear disintegrated, I sent to them. Reasonable price, good turnaround time, looks and works great. Can't ask for more out of a shop.

Nhollywood does good work; charges high prices; and the old guy there has a very "german" attitude towards customers.

i.e. you untermenschen are lucky that we allow you to pay us to do zees werk! Do NOT interrupt us by asking when your gauges vill be ready!

There’s not a ton of options. I was gonna recommend a place in Pennsylvania I used to fix my odometer but just looked them up and see they are out of business. Too bad.

As for LEDs. I just did that. I’m glad I did it but I did not get the omg what a difference reaction that most seem to have and I’m not sure why. But it’s cheap. Just do it.

I too need to have my faces cleaned and the glass cleaned on the left 3 gauges. Those are the ones that fog up with condensation and eventually leads to them looking not so clear. I have also read that clean glass may prevent some condensation

It doesn’t thrill me to send my gauges off in the mail but I guess pack em well and insure them for whatever it will cost to replace. I would be much happier if I lived in Cali and could just drop them off in person. Oh well

G-man, this place https://www.heiler-tachodesign.de/Speedometer-Disc-Porsche-911-Carrera-Targa-Coupe-Mph-to-Kmh have some really nice gauge faces. I hope this helps, regards, Bill.

stay stock, though change to motherland km/h, maybe a little detail (e.g. my clock)…

Probably not a good representation since you want to be somewhat stock but I could not resist. These will eventually go in my current project.

North Hollywood speedometer did the work and I am very happy with them.

I am interested in custom gauge arrangements. about to mount my 78 930 shell on a rotisserie for paint.

plan to add stuff like AFR, amp, boost, etc.

gumba 08-08-2019 05:50 AM

911tracker85 here you go. The first shot are custom gauges I built for our race car. The second shot are modified gauges in my 930.

I've used Palo Alto Speedometer a couple of times over the past six months for a couple of repairs. Not cheap but great work and quick turnaround. I'd definitely recommend them.

Carbone out of Poland also restores gauges.

thanks Gumba

I've got a number of things going on here, including voltmeter in tach, clean up a lot of extraneous items (KM/H scale, VDO branding, parking light icon on speedo, minute hash marks on clock) and classic white LEDs. Done by PA Speedo...

Here’s my custom tach with programmable shift light and span indicator. The second pic is my iPhone app for the Bluetooth distributor that shows me an additional tach, voltage, engine temp. And gps speedo.
