Right side Hinge whale Tail Lift Strut

First, I do not care if this “Lowers the Value Of my Car because Feiry Porsche did not put it in my car from the factory.

I am Posting this so that anyone that has Mounted 2 or 3 Struts on the Left side and hate how it twists / warps the Rear Deck Lid.

I saw that some cars already have the bracket on the fire wall but mine did not. I made the 2 Brackets from 1/8” Hot rolled Angle Steel (available at local hardware store)

The Bracket Mounted to the Hinge is 70 mm between Centers on the Long sides and 25 mm between centers on the Short aide.

The Bracket I Mounted on the Firewall, The 1/4” Hole is about 33 mm from the Bend and the Bracket is about 35 mm Tall you can set your Bolt spacing as you want. Mine is about 30 mm between Centers.

To Mount the Firewall Bracket, I Removed the Package shelf Interior by removing the 4 Screws then (Because it is hard to get to), I Mounted the entire Assembly on the Hinge with the Lower Bolt with everything Tight then Pushed everything in Place. I used Spray Paint on the Firewall Bracket To Mark the Places the Holes need to be Drilled. Center punched them and Drilled THROUGH BOTH WALLS AND THE SOUND DEADENING. I used a 1/2 inch drill bit to remove the Sound deadening And Mounted the Strut. THEN Drilled the Second (Top Hole) in the Hinge Bracket.

Things to remember, Mount the Hinge Bracket on the Left Side Of the Hinge.
Mount the Strut on the Right side of the Hinge with AND all Bolt heads on the Left side of the Bracket.

Before this Mod, “3” now Older Struts would not lift the Lid, now 1 New one and 2 old ones have it flying up. It also shuts Level

Stay Tuned, I am Making Changes (Hopefully) Done today. It works well as it is, but when shutting the Lid and watching underneath, there is a Movement Of the Strut I do not like. So I am Modifying ONE Bracket and ADDING to the other Bracket Today. Will Post Pics of the modifications today.

Actually if you look back, when I had had enough of the Long Reach To Shift Gears, I made a 2” extension that Glued into the Lever Of a Short Shift And Sold a Few “Hundred” Of them for $25 Delivered😂😂. So with me, you Never know. But “1” Thing is for sure, “2” Different kits need to be made! One for the Later models that already have a Mount on the Firewall (Being Just the Hinge Bracket) And a Second Kit That does include a Firewall Mount plus Hardware. I would BUY (and looked for one First) for even $100. 😂😂

You used to be able to buy these parts from Porsche, maybe they’re still available.

Only if a Left side Hinge can be used on the Right side. Never saw a Right Hinge with the Shock Provision. The Older cars only have “1” Left Side Mount Welded to the Firewall. So even if they sold it, you would have to weld it in Place which is an entirely different deal.

The firewall bracket is, I bought one a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, it's a "special order from Germany, non-returnable" etc order from our host, with a surcharge.

But a parts store in SoCal with the initials EM had it on the shelf and shipped same week.

Now I just need to weld it in...

Has its own 930 part #, 930.512.036.00 "turbo hinge"; came on cars that fitted with the turbo tail from the factory.

Brilliant!!

Anyone hear the Expression “We have met the Enemy and he is us”

Sometimes, you need to leave “Well Enough” alone! If you noticed the Hinge Bracket I Made had “2” Mount Holes for The Strut. I was Trying to use the Last Hole which allowed the Lid to be almost “Straight Up”. So instead of working “IN” the Engine compartment “Under” the Deck Lid, That Last Hole 15 mm farther away allowed this to Happen.

The “Problems” were that Sound I heard and the Deck Lid Being Pushed Up on the Right Side. Just to make sure of what the Problem was, I remounted the shock in the “70” MM Hole and would you believe ALL OF MY PROBLEMS WENT AWAY! so no more Modifications will be made other than the Lid gap Adjustments. BTW, it is Nice to pull the Engine cover Lever and the Lid goes up!
