Another vote for Rennshifter. Probably the most satisfying bolt on modification for the time & money.
Cup holder might be second on the list, haha |
Getting rid of the A/C system and the fan assist system on the left side of the engine feeding the heat exchangers. Makes it so I can see and reach both sides of the engine, and also improves the heating when needed.

Agreed. In the pacific northwest, "function" means decent heat and virtually no reason for A/C.

I like this question.
Lightening the car: A.C. delete, side skirt delete, rear seat delete. Turning the gages was a must with speeds on the Autobahn, 80-100 Turning the gages was a must can actually see the tachometer what is happening speed-wise. (free) Would like to reduce more weight eventually. Sometimes I miss having A.C. on hot days.. Not expensive: I love my MoMo Prototypo nice size /some dish. Sparco front seat has been great to keep me planted and optimal position. ( got these things used and reasonably priced ) Some expense: Elephant after-market stuff: I am hoping my suspension re-fresh (almost done!) is my favorite mod ..lowered w/ new rubber everywhere, new mounts etc. |

My car is in the shop now.
I asked to cap the right side of the muffler to quiet it down a bit. Hopefully the lopey idle will be less, but I’m not very sure. I prefer to keep the M&K because it is such a high quality, lightweight muffler. But you make a good point. (And Dansk is not that bad either) |
An extra condensor for the A/C.
SW Chip 964 cams these things make me smile every time i drive it. |

My favorite thing I've done to the car is putting it on a twin post rotary lift!!!!
The best upgrade was to dump the AC and add the Carrera cooler. When I'd visit my dad in Santa Barbara the 74 had absolutely scary oil temps and almost no oil pressure. Looking forward to getting the car back on the road, upgraded suspension, quick rack, adjustable rear Carrera bar, RSR flywheel, 6 pound alum clutch, Rennshifter,stomsky, duck, recovered sport seats, new brakes and MK 2-2 sport and.....stock, (150 hp) 2.7 Not sure which of the goodies is going to get the "favorite" tag. Still pushing it at 71 - can't wait to get it to thunderhill. chris |

Over the last 22 years, I replaced and upgraded my 87 Carrera with the most common parts discussed in the forum.
The most noticeable improvement, however, was to acquire Sal Carceller MAF kit that consisted of a complete rewrite of the performance chip in a customized DME, A much accurate air flow meter (solid state) and matching cone filter. a modern set of efficient fuel injectors and all of the above work in harmony together to provide smooth performance of the engine, precision and reliability. |
My '79 SC had a broken headstud problem :( but my mechanic suggested putting the newly rebuilt 930/10 engine with 964 cams and SSIs that came in my donor car I had stored away.
Wow. A completely different engine. The '79 ROW had some torque and went well. But the '82 engine with subtle mods goes like an over-reved sewing machine. Not as much torque but it revs out very smoothly. More power definitely. It's quite happy with 6,000 RPM gearshifts from second gear upwards. |
Interesting, I would think you'd rather have the heads from the 79 on that engine.
