Relay constantly clicking

Hello, new 911 owner. Just purchased a 74' targa. Working on a few small issues. First that has stumped me is an issue with a "Clicking relay." It appears to be the Hella relay behind the fuel/oil gauge. When turning the ignition switch on the relay constantly "clicks" and con'ts as long as the engine is running or the ignition is on. I initially thought it was due to the parking brake switch. I checked this and adjusted. It was/is working fine. When the parking brake is engaged the light on the dash blinks and there is an audible "ticking" sound that syncs with the "ticking" I am hearing. When the brake is disengaged the light goes out but the ticking continues. The turn signals work fine. When on, they seem to take over and they have a louder audible tick but when turned off the "other" sound returns. I removed the bulb to the parking brake dash warning light. This stopped the ticking, but I would like to fix the problem not just silence it. Does the "Hella" relay simply pull out like the others for the horn etc. I am certain that is where it is originating from as I can reach back and feel the relay pulse in sync with the sound. Other issue I am trying to sort, possibly related or not... I found the headlight switch is reversed. Ie: when I turn the lights on the high beams default. When you turn on the high beams or "flash" the lights the low beams are on. I have not thoroughly looked into this yet, but not sure if it is related ?

Try unplugging the switch on the side of the master cylinder. It's not the brake light switch, which is down on the pedal cluster. Turn the wheels all the way right and you can see the switch, and pull the wire off with needlenose pliers. Or of course, jack the car up and do it from underneath. It relates to the dash warning light.

I will give it a try this weekend. If that fixes the issue, what does that indicate ?

The switch sets the dash light off when one of the master cylinder circuits isn't working as designed. You would know if the brakes felt funny without the light telling you so. Usually it's just a faulty switch. The relay is in that circuit.

The clicking is the flasher relay. You have a leakage path in path of the parking brake/Master cylinder wiring. This leakage is causing the flasher relay to engage but doesn't provide enough current to light the bulb. You'll have to check the wiring to the e-brake and MC.

Here's the turnsignal schematic for the Porsche 914. The 911 is basically the same. Notice the leakage path in red. It's enough to trigger the flasher but not enough to light the bulb.

Try disconnecting the wires to the e-brake switch and MC switch to see if it's either switch.
