Finding an engine?

Where are some of the best places to shop around for a used engine? I'm looking to get either a 3.0, 3.2, or possibly even a 930 engine. I have searched both the classifieds here as well as ebay (I'm a bit hesitant to buy an engine off of ebay). Are there any reputable places that have engines?

www.dartauto.com has a 76 930 motor and proabaly the others that you are looking at.

get with Harald (Speedster94)...I know he has many engines and will gladly assist you with the purchase, shipping, and tech questions.

I bought this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33615&item=1876265 441

It wasn't a perfect transaction, but I do have my 1987 up and running now. Send them email. They are importing engines all the time.

Try : www.partsheaven.com

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

I have bought several parts from partsheaven - they seem reputable to me.

LA Porsche sent me a quote for a 3.2 for a conversion a few weeks ago. $6500.

Can also try Oklahoma Foreign Auto and perhaps even Planet 9 Eleven. I know Oklahoma Foreign Auto will have some...they dismantle a lot of Porsches!

Steve Timmins has my old 3.2 and will rebuild it for someone else to buy. He does a lot of 3.6 conversions and has an awesome website. http://www.instant-g.com/

I bought a "rebuildable" engine from Dart and they were very good to work with and it arrived when promised in the condition promised.

Hey all, is it better to buy a new engine or rebuild the one that is in your car? I am thinking about what is better long term I have a 85 911 with 200k miles and it is scary driving anywhere far. What is the best way to go

Thanks

k9handler 03-26-2003 10:20 PM

a rebuild can easily run $3k...and a new (used) engine will be a few $k above that, but will have far less mileage and depending on the engine it may have more power and less maintenance costs in the long run. Check out Steve's site www.instant-g.com and read his FAQ section to get some valuable answers.

Neither -- Buy a rebuildable motor and build it according to how you want it -- while still being able to drive your 911 on it's original motor!
