Black mirror for 1974 911
Anyone know where I can find a black mirror like this? Someone was selling them here brand new but really don't want to spend $400 plus on one. I know TRE used to sell them but no more from what I've heard.
Thank you! ![]() |

Buy the repro you pictured above, lightly sand down, paint with care and you are good to go. Originals are really rare because no one makes them. So that $400 price that guy listed I thought was market value as I have only seen originals come up twice in 4 years on the classifieds. Good luck!

Shouldn't you have the chrome chemically stripped to ensure good adhesion for the paint and primer? That's what I've done in the past on hot rods, but I've seen several painted early mirrors on 911's and no one mentioned stripping them..

The black ones are available all over the U.K., and all about that $400 price. Most of them are not original NOS ones. They were for 1975. 1974 was chrome.

David,
Did you disassemble the whole mirror? I give it a half hearted try but didn't want to damage the mirror and plastic frame around it. Powder coated said he would melt the plastic on it unless it was completely dismantled. Thanks, Joe |

Vinyl Wrapped Mirrors?
I've had the same interest and noticed Pelican user cameron.arnott has a set of black flags on his car, midway down this thread:
Mounting 74 mirror to a SC door help I haven't pulled the trigger on buying my mirrors - but have considered how I would go about blackening a repro chrome mirror (can be found for ~$189 ea). From all options considered, I may opt to try a vinyl wrap. Relatively cheap to DIY the wrap, pretty durable from what I understand and also easy to return to chrome if it doesn't work out as desired. I've also considered the Vitaloni Baby Tornado as a cheaper alternative (~$90 ea) as pictured below: ![]() Good luck, let us know what you come up with. Gordo

Yes, I took it completely apart before sand blasting and powder coating

Not a big fan of the rubber mirrors, they look very aftermarket to me. AASE used to have the black mirrors in their catalog, but they disappeared a while back. Seems like there's a market for them, hopefully they come back. It would be nice to just order and bolt on.
