Oil tank modification
Does anybody know where I can get my 1970 911 oil tank extended and baffled like Fabcar used to do?

If Fabcar no longer provide this service there is a possibility that Jerry Woods Motorsports can do something similar. I know that they have a process they use for their racing and high performance customers... not sure whether they'd do it for anyone else. Perhaps worth a call.

Are you still running the '70 motor?
IMO you would be better off installing a newer tank. In '73 the tank was increased in size and the fittings were inlarged, therefore the flow was increased as well. Also the pickup was relocated to prevent starving which can occur with the older style tank.

I won't remember the exact year it changed in an hour, but now I know they did.. ![]() the baffling of a tank is generally associated with a car that is tracked often or a dedicated racer. does your 70 fit that criteria? if not baffling seems like an extreme, in cost if nothing else. although if you insist upon enlarging the tank I guess the baffling would be a while yir in there thing. unless originality is important adding a front cooler and lines would increase oil capacity in addition to the cooling opportunity. then again I know not of early long hood plumbing enough to know what is required in adding cooler and lines.

The oil tank was changed somewhere between 69 and 73. If contemplating a late tank, be aware some engine compartment sheet metal must be removed to fit. Oil line connections from tank to engine and external cooler are also larger on later tanks. This necessitates either hose adapters or late hoses.

![]() ![]() The 70 - 71 Oil Tanks have a 30mm Supply Fitting, so there is adequate size for Oil into the Motor. I cannot speak for the baffling inside. Here is what Fabcar has done for increased Oil Capacity.... ![]() with their "RSR" modifications. Note AN fitting which was an option. Here is a custom RSR oil tank with the later mounting configuration offered new by DC auto and others (Not our Host) with a larger fill tube and greater capacity...... ![]() As Trackrash advises, the 73 up mounting is different and will require a new opening in the side panel. I can make up custom Metric Hoses if needed. Len ![]() |

Thanks everybody for your input.
The car I’m working on is a 1970 tub with RSR flares, coil overs, big brakes and a motec managed 3.8 making over 400hp. I discovered it already has a fabcar modified oil tank but it spun #5 rod bearing when run at COTA with a very good driver. In talking with Jerry Woods, they discovered through data that even with the Fabcar tanks they were seeing zero oil pressure at certain places on certain tracks. They do their own tank modifications now that apparently solves the problem. By the way, I communicated with Dave Klym and Fabcar closed in 2014. Best Regards to all, Jim |

You might try Redstone Performance. I'm not sure if they have any affiliation with Fabcar but they are in the same area and appear to be producing some of the old Fabcar parts (shifters, dual master cylinders, 944 control arms, etc).

The other thing to consider is the size of the piping inside the tank and the oil filter. Porsche changed to an oil filter with a larger capacity with the newer tanks. Notice how this modded oil tank has the fitting moved more to the center of the tank compared to the original location on the older tanks. ![]()
