vacuum on 83 sc

I purchased a vacuum gauge today so that I could familiarise myself with engine vacuums .
I wasn't too sure where to hook up so I connected to the distributor advance hose and measured 0 in. and then connected to distributor retard hose and measured 17 in. The engine was idling. Are these measurements normal?
Thanks,
Hugh

I'm not sure if my question is understood but there must be someone here that has measured how much vacuum there is at the two lines going to the distributor.
The reason I am asking is because I still am not sure that I have my vacuum lines properly connected to the throttle body. There are a few vacuum connections at the throttle body and I am still confused as to which is used for vacuum advance and retard. I'd like to lay this to rest, once and for all.
Thank you.
