New Battery.... drained.

So some idiot left my lights on yesterday. So I replaced the batt with a new since it was fairly old. (FYI the OEM POsche tool kit is great!)

So drove the car home from work and when I went to start it, completely dead. Tossed a trickle charger on it, for less then 30 minutes.

I thought hey that one positive terminal bold was hard to get too... so I hit it again and while I couldn't move or wiggle the terminal the bold had a good few turns left in it to snug it up.

So the question is, did some dummy, who left his lights on also maybe not tighten the terminal enough to get a good charge on the way home?

Thanks guys!

I’m no expert but my thought would be how could it be tight enough to get enough juice to start car but not tight enough to charge. I would think, and could be wrong, that it’s either connecting or it ain’t

Could it be that your leaving the lights on is a red herring and that the real problem is the alternator which has allowed 2 batteries to die?

Btw, I recently replaced my battery. When I went to remove the old battery....the positive cable came off the post without any tools. It had loosened and I suspect was just sitting loose on the post for probably 6 years and I never had any problem with it going dead

Yea I thought the same thing. Oddly after tightening the terminal it cranked right up. I'll have to keep an eye on it and keep the trips short.

So I tried to repeat the issue, took it for a drive equal to the drive home, got it home turned it off. Turned the key and full power and very strong cranking... dunno, must have been that slightly loose terminal.

could very well have been that, invest in a battery terminal brush thingy... one of the kind that has the male and female cleaner brushes on it... the simplest things like cleaning/ tightening your terminals periodically are often overlooked

Yea, I had thought that at some point I would do the smuggler box set up, but for now I am good with OEM.

Costco sells Interstate H8 42-month batteries now for $133. This fits 1980's 911SCs.
