Mechanic in San Francisco
I just got my first Porsche - 1984 Carrera Coupe. I bought it in LA and drove it 385 miles to SF (picture, if I may be so indulgent, to follow). I bought the car with a warning from the PPI that the transmition is going to need work. So, who in SF would be good for that kind of thing?
(the symptoms are a noisy, scratchy sound especially in low RPMs, especially in 4th and 5th gear. The stick also moves a 'click' when I accelerate or decelerate, and rattles) |

S-Car-Go Racing in San Rafael. Rob and Ray own the shop and they are awesome - they'll treat you right! They know all the tricks, and are very fair. Go visit their shop - on Irwin street in San Rafael off the 101. They have a website, too: http://www.scargoracing.com
You'll be happy you went there |

If you call Ted Robinson, he's probably gonna tell you to talk to Glen of Alpha Omega. That's what he told me. Glen just rebuilt the transmission of my '84 Carrera. At <1K miles it's shifting beautifully, an enormous improvement. Glen's knowledge of and experience with these transmissions is just staggering. He's also been very helpful to me regarding other Porsche mechanical arcana.
I don't have his number here at home, so I'll post again tomorrow with that. When other issues come up with your car, don't hesitate to send me a private message .. I've been around the horn a couple times with mine already and might be able to help. Congrats on your purchase! Cheers,
