Oil Leak Pattern Identification
Hi Pelicans,
Im chasing oil leaks on a 73.5 911T. Lots of smoke from left heat exchanger. Pulled the exhaust manifold to replace the return tube seals and found the pictured oil pattern. Is it possible to tell from this pic if the rocker shaft seals are leaking and or if it is only the return tubes? Thank you Mazehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567644555.JPGhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567644997.jpg |
that looks to be more than just return tubes, but you cannot be sure until you remove the valve cover. Then you can see it for sure.

If the rocker shafts look dry on their ends, that's sealant failure between heads and cam towers. Very common. Leaking exhaust gaskets as well.

Insides of the cam towers look nice and bright. You use good oil. At least...oil with low paraffin content.
|
You might want to check your head stud tightness as well.
