Can you run cohline fuel lines instead of steel line in SWB?
My car was left outside for a couple decades and dirt and water got into the steel lines, blocking them solid. I pulled new cohline through the tunnel and fitted the grommets correctly. My question is: can I run this line up through the real where the second set of clogged steel lines are or will the heat in this area from the engine and transmission likely melt my lines? I’ve heard some of the later model cars and cohline but was unsure if the metal lines or for temp purposes.
Currently I have the cohline running from the fuel pump in the front, all the way through the tunnel and out around the rear suspension in the clips for the old steel line up into the engine compartment where the fuel filter will attach. The clogged old steel line. ![]()

![]() ![]() You will have to be careful of the routing above the Heater Box..... ![]() You can use this Heat Shielding as with this example from a fellow Pelican..... ![]() Still need to know details of what you have presently. Len ![]() |

Len has some good options, check him out.
However, I replaced my tunnel fuel line with copper tubing. No problems for the past FORTY FIVE years. Was easy and inexpensive.

OEM design standard is steel lines front-to-back if under or through body (and bundled with brake lines, for example) due to long runs, stone impingement, durability, and accessibility (or lack thereof).

When I restored my 68, I replaced the dirty old fuel line and added a return line for MFI. I used soft lines from the tunnel to the fuel filter.
I expected getting the hardlines threaded through would be tough, but it really wasn't bad. |

Not sure if the issue has been resolved or not, but i remember Chris Seven reporting a number of Cohline branded fuel hose failures a little while back.

![]() ![]() There have been lots of different rubber compounds used for fuel hoses over the years by auto manufacturers, and the old hoses from most have proven to fail with what is in todays fuels. The cloth braided hose from Cohline and Continental (OE Porsche suppliers) were no exception. The best to use through the Tunnel in my opinion is SS hardline, but that requires dropping the Motor & Trans to install. I have custom Metric Flare Fittings for this if needed..... ![]() ![]() The "Almost Bulletproof" option is the factory type Polyamide tube currently used today. This can be installed with much less effort than most people expect, even with the motor & trans still in place. By using my Tunnel Lines and this M14 Female Coupler... ![]() Lots of comments on this are posted here on Pelican. And completing the job with my E-85 Rated Hose will end your concerns about fuel hose failure. For info, please email me. I am happy to help. Len.Cummings at verizon.net ![]() |
