Looking at a new car locally, have a few quick questions

I have a 1977 911S 2.7 that I am not selling, or trading/etc. I have a 2002 Toyo MR2 Spyder that I am trading in.

Locally there are several Boxsters for around $29-$38 (2000-2002) and one 2001 S for $35 available. There is also a 1999 C2 w/14k miles for about 47.

I'd prefer the C2 to a Boxster (I'm not that big a convertible person, that's why I'm trading in my MR2 Spyder) but who knows how the financing and such will go.

I know this has probably been went over to death and back but does anyone have any guidance they'd want to impart? I'm getting out of Toyo one way or the other and I'd like to get a newer Porsche in the mix. If it turns out to be an impossibility I may just cut my losses, sell the Toyo outright and by another beater (4dr family-mobile) for inner-city transit.

Thanks all for any advice and help!

If you buy the C2 or Boxster you will end up buying another a family beater because you will not want to subject the new toy to inner city traffic.

Once you buy the city beater your wife will ***** to you about why you need two toys that you only drive occassionally. You can explain to her that cars are to guy like handbag or shoes to women.

I've had some similar discussions with my mechanic - a 30+ year Porsche guy....

First, my wife commutes in her Boxster and loves it - 10 miles each way, heavy traffic.

Mechanics advice:

Early 911's pre 1974 - "you gotta love em"
911 2.7 74-77 "avoid"
911SC's 78-83 "good+"
Carrera 3.2 84-89 "good+", with the G50 transimission (after mid 86) "better"
Carrera 964 3.6 89-93 "avoid except the RS America"
Carrera 993 93-98 "great"
99-2003 "they're water cooled, why bother when there are so many other cars out there?"

Don't you just love being in that "avoid" category????? :)

Buy the C2 if U can
