How to Set Camshaft Timing in 1990 Porsche 964

Greetings,
My name is Eddie Fisher and new at this, but I have a 1990 Porsche 911 (964) targa that my Dad and I are rebuilding the engine in. So far so good but now we are reassembling and need some help on how to set the camshaft timing. Was hoping that the group here could shead some insight. Is there any information out there or could someone who might have done this have any step by step instructions on how to do this process correctly. I appreciate any guidance and help.

Thanks Eddie

You might start out with Wayne Demsey's book "How to rebuild and modify Porsche 911 Engines". This book only covers cam timing on the 3.0. Not sure of the differences that will be found on the 3.6 but as a general guideline it may be helpful.

I'll be starting my 3.6 build soon hopefully. I have a factory repair manual. It describes use of special tools that are different than the earlier engines. I haven't tried sourcing them from Baum. Oddly, I was able to get the harmonic balancer tools. For cam timing, I've heard others just rig up something to temporarily tension the chains while fine tuning timing.

The tensioner and chain rails are different but the cam timing is still the same as pre964
