Just a little note, Castrol has had charges brought against it with the FTC and NAD from Mobil 1 and Amsoil for false advertising. Castrol changed it's formula for Syntec (not synth blend) and is NOT a synthetic oil. I know it says fully synthetic on the bottle, but it's not, it IS pretroleum based.

"Recently, Mobil and Castrol went before the National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau. The NAD is a forum commonly used between marketers to resolve national advertising disputes, since it has a short time limit in which it must finish, it is a self-regulating body, non-binding, and avoids the far more serious FTC enforcements. Mobil claimed Castrol a) did not have the superior product that Castrol claimed and b) were misleading the public, since Castrol was using a hydroprocessed base oil in their synthetic oil product. The decision is at www.caru.org/nad99/0401.html "

"The outcome for part a) was that Castrol did not have the superior product that their advertising led consumers to believe and that they will have to modify their television advertising. These claims at issue were "superior engine protection" and "unique molecular bonding." "

"The outcome for part b) was that Castrol was allowed to continue to advertise their Castrol Syntec product as a synthetic oil formulation. The base oil used by Castrol met certain industry performance standards and due to the lack of a technical definition that differentiated between PAO and hydroprocessed base oils, they may continue. "

Castrol Syntec users, you've been duped!!!!!

I guess my point is, for the same money as the Castrol, you can buy a fully synthec Mobil 1 or for another buck or two a quart you can run the Amsoil, which IMHO is still superior, and change it half as often.

Just my .02 worth.

Yeh I see you r point if the cheap Casrol product does that then it's probably no good. But I'm talking about Castrol Magnatec a different kettle of fish and all together more expensive

I run dynamic coefficient of friction tests on transmission oils for work. Mobil 210 Type "F" is the most consistent oil our company has run across. It has the best linear torque curve over changing temperature. Very little torque fade. We highly recommend it for the products we sell (power transmissions for industries). But we have not check all the fluids out there.

I am going to test the Mobil synthetic trans oil next week vs the Mobil 210 "F" fluid. Would like to get my hands on some Swepco and check it.

It would be fun to check the gamit of motor oils too.

Jim: please post you findings here.

I assume the trans fluid you're going to test is Manual trans fluid.

Yeh please post the results try and get hold of some Castrol 'Magnatec' , they claim the molecules of oil magnetize themselves to metal and hence on start ups they claim your engine is better protected . I swear my engine is less smokey on start ups since I've started using it .

Sorry... no manual fluid.

We use Mobil 210 ATF Type "F" in most of our products. This is an old Ford spec for their early transmissions. Plus we run Mobil 424, which is a John Deere spec, slipping fluid for our constant slip applications.

We have found Texaco ATF to have an "S" torque curve (instead of linear) vs temperature and the Texaco TDH (similar to Mobil 424) to chatter. But on the bright side for Texaco it did run approx 10 degrees cooler than Mobil ATF.

Can post results when available.

Bones,

I have never heard of Magnatec here in the states. Is that an "across the pond" thing?

Again not sure if I could squeeze the time out of work to test motor oils.

Maybe I could get our host to "donate" about 3 gallons of Swepco (enough for testing plus fill my 911 trans HeHeHe!!!), and I could compare it to another similar type of manual fluid and post those findings? What do you say Wayne?!?
