1971 911T research - need Help

Hi all, Havent been on this forum since I parted ways with my 944s about a decade ago. Since then I've spent a large amount of time with air cooled vw's, and have been drawing near air cooled porsches.

I've found a 911T that might present itself as an opportunity for purchase. I am planning on approaching the owner of the property that the vehicle is located at on Monday.

I was able to approach the car, get under it, take some pictures and acquire the vin.
The car has a Hagerty Sticker on it, a PCA club sticker on it, Last pennsylvania inspection was 2007, and the registration stickers on the plate indicate it was last registered with the PA DMV in 2010. I live in Pa, and this car was last registered in Pa.

Can any of you point me to any resources that I can utilize to find some history of this car based on the VIN? Do forums like this (or others - registry, pca, etc.) have vehicles and their VINS recorded with old members?

Just want to be armed before I head over on monday.

Thanks!

Len

Head on over to the early 911 S registry and search around for the vin. Or better yet, ask the members if they know the car, chances are, someone does.

And google can help, too

The only way I know of to check any info through the VIN # is to apply for the Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. That info takes about a month or so to receive, so it’s not going to be helpful in the short term. That document usually confirms #s, model, color & options. Once you get the engine and trans #’s they can all be checked that they at least could be within a range of numbers for that year and model (see below). Again, the COA will be able to confirm the specific numbers to that car.
You might check around the area for a place where the car might have been serviced if not at a dealer and see what they can tell you about the car, if they remember.
Since it was once insured with Haggerty and the owner was involved with PCA, I'm sure they will probably be forthcoming with information. I’ll bet the owner probably has a stack of paperwork on the car that will answer a lot of your questions. Is it possible the owner is deceased and that's why it’s sat so long?
I would spend the immediate time researching the fine points of a 71T. Although I guess it isn't much different from a 70 other than carbs perhaps or the wheels and options available. I would also start a list of questions to be answered by the owner.
Sometimes in the heat of the excitement things get forgotten to be asked.
I once owned a 71 sunroof coupe and it was a blast. Hope it works out for you.
Good luck; sometimes the hunt can be a lot of fun.

Gezz, even the SUV looks like it's been sitting awhile!

A few quick comments.
Body looks pretty decent on the T but a closer look is needed.
Correct mirror, wheels & caps. Has correct chrome trim.
Missing front bumper trim.

Thanks for the info Robert. Based on my observations, I think this car has indeed sat for a while due to the passing of the former owner. In some other region of Pennsylvania. It recently arrived in my field of view over the last few weeks. Bothe the 911 and that cayenne showed up around the same time.

I was underneath the car and all over the body taking pcitures until i felt I was clearly beyond reasonable observation to looking suspicious... Undercarrriage is good. Sheet metal is in good shape, looks to have been restored maybe circa early 2000's. Paint has taken some scratches, and shows some bubbling in flat sections, but nothing near the windows.

I am hedging my bets that the individual that currently has possession of the vehicle obtained it via an estate sale or something similar. Car just kind of feels like thats the case. I just cant stand seeing it parked outside collecting leaves and tree sap!

Hoping that the current owner of this car is doing so because he has no idea what he has....
