Which Drop Links: Genuine Porsche, Tarett, ER, or something else?

Hey Pelicans,

The time has come to replace the drop links on the rear sway of my ‘84 Carrera Targa. I ran a few searches, but didn’t land on anything definitive. Which drops links do we prefer (OEM, Tarett, Elephant Racing, something else?) and why?

Intended Use of Car: Street with one canyon day per month. No track time whatsoever. I do not plan to upgrade the rear sway from stock (for now, at least), but would like to move up to a better product if the Genuine Porsche links are outdated/inferior. I want to maintain a comfortable/compliant ride seeing as this car will see more road time than my others, but am not opposed to tightening things up a bit.

Thanks in advance!

Porsche original for me, the lemforder ones (I believe they were lemforder) ripped apart in the first 10 kms.

I am installing an 84 18mm rear bar on my 74 because it will take a heim jointed drop link to 0 out the pre load when corner weighting. I chose Elephant because they have rubber boots around the Heim joints to give them some protection from moisture/dirt.
My plan is to drill 2 more holes in the blade end of the bar for some adjustability.
Car is 95% street, rubber bushings. With a stock CIS, 150 hp 2.7,it is not going to be "Fast", but am working to "tighten it up".
To your question, stock will be the cheapest, quietest and most comfortable. But, they are not adjustable for preload if you are going to corner weight. I expect a very slight handling improvement by using the heim joints, (reduction in compliance- rubber), but at a financial cost and very slight increase in harshness.
With the protective rubber boots, I hope for a bit longer life from the Elephant bits.

Thanks, gentlemen. I was leaning towards Tarett and ER. For completeness, Tarett sells rubber boots for their links separately (on the second page of their own site) and it looks like Rennlone makes boots for them as well.

Question: Will the Tarett and ER links actually lead to an increase in NVH? I really like the idea of adjusting preload and haven’t seen many reports of “increased harshness” as an added side effect. Your thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated.

I used Tarrett and had the suspension tuned by a pro. The expert really liked them and I’m very happy with the end result. Look good too.

I used the OEM ones from our host. The orginals lasted 30 years and the new ones have been good for the last ten.

The adjustability of the tarett seems like a really nice option

I used free weights and a 50lb bag of dog food to get to my weight to preload.
Makes a difference!
