Thumbs up Best $11.00 spent

Rebuilt my pedal cluster over the weekend, also replaced the worn accelerator crank bell housing bushings and adjusted the throttle linkage. Whoa! I must repeat, Whoa! Bloody hell! The difference in the pedal action is unbelieveable.

Here's the best bit - where the bell crank bushings and the accelerator pedal bushings were completely knackered (disintegrated) the throttle linkage was so loose it was only opening to about 70% of where it should. It isn't now.

Just gained the best bit of the rev range, car used to get there, just slowly. Now she flies to the limiter without hesitation.

You MUST do this if your car is 20+ years old and the cluster hasn't been rebuilt. Seriously.

I am a very happy bunny.

how did you prepare the shaft where the bell crank rotates on? did you have to sandpaper it out and smooth it before installing the new bushings?

No, the pivot bar was smooth. I ordered Weltmeister bronze bushings but they did not fit, I don't know why but the bar was considerably larger in diameter than the interior bore of the bushings. Ended up buying a couple of 27 cent nylon fittings from Ace Hardware which I then resized, work perfectly.

All three of the bushings were gone on mine, and I mean GONE. This was the case when I bought the car. Max throttle opening was 50%! And to think that the PO didn't like the car!

Any pics of what you did? I've still got the bushings in my tool box for a future project on my pedal cluster. Does anyone know if Pelican has a kit for the accel linkage? Thanks

Also inspect the bushings in the throttle mounting plate at the engine. There are two small bushings in there that on my car were totally gone.
