Oil Issues

I don't want to turn this into a "what's your favorite oil thread", but I'm having trouble finding oil for my 1980 911.

Evidently Mobile1 only comes as synthetic now, which I understand to be a no-no if you're not a big fan of oil leaks. BTW I did notice that if I buy mobile1 I can be entered to win a Cayenne (looks like big Porsche Advertising on the various Mobile oils..)

SO, I went looking for Kendell GT-1, and can't find it anywhere in 15-50w.

Where are you finding either Dino Mobil1 or the correct weight Kendell GT1 oil? I've looked at Advanced, Autozone, Napa. Heck, even Sams club and walmart!!

Help.. Now I'm not sure what I should use.

Thanks!

Chuck

If you're looking for mobile1, there is no dino version of it...not sure where you heard that there was, but Mobile 1 has always been synthetic. I'm not sure where you can get Kendell as I've never noticed it in the major chains.

Mobil 1 has always been synthetic only; and I discovered Kendell GT1 is difficult to find also, that's why I don't use it. There's plenty of other quality oils "out there" and plenty of recommendations on this BBS, just do a search and pick one.

I see that you said you checked Autozone, maybe they don't stock it in your area but the Autozone's in Orlando have Kendall 20w50 on the shelves, you might want to ask if they can order it for you?

Don't know what you guys are talking about...there is *no* dino Mobil(e) 1. It's synthetic. Check the www.mobil1.com website.

Kendall 20/50 here. Try Porsche mechanics. Will they sell you some?
I get mine at a podunk auto parts store that is not part of any chain. Just a greasy building in a small town about a half hour away.
Make some phone calls.

Not to belabor and overly belabored point here, but there's nothing magic about Kendall, good oil, yes, but still just oil. Find a quality oil, in the correct viscosity, available locally, and use it. As to Mobil 1, there was no "Mobil 1" until the Exxon/Mobil Company decided to market fully synthetic lubricants, which they designated "Mobil 1". If you want to know what I use (high quality, readily available throughout the USA, reasonable price) you'll have to ask, as we don't want to turn this into a "what's your favorite oil thread".
