hello fellow Porsche fans. I live in Manhattan and I need mechanic. As I have a rather unique old car (with late model running gear) I am NOT looking for some snob or dealer. Rather I was hoping that one of you might be able to recommend me to a small to medium size shop that takes pride in its work. One that is not going to treat my car like dirt b/c it is not a new turbo. Specifically I am looking to have some small jobs done that I don't have the tools/knowledge to do. Thanks to all. Finally, if anyone needs a place to stay in Hershey I might have a line on an extra room. --James

Check out PAR Porsche, about 20 minutes north of Manhattan. Some of the best Porsche mechanics in the country.

2 shops on LI have big reps.. Rudtners Racing in Nassau Co. 516-378-8769.. and RPM in Suffox Co. 631-423-0275.. many PCA DE guys use them both.. some even bring their cars from out of state to them both

If you don't mind coming out to the Island I know some guys out here who are 1st rate.
RPM Racing in Huntington. Depending on where you are in the city it's a 40 minute run. Tasso is the local PCA Tech and Russ is a really great guy. Had a major problem with my car 2 weeks after I got it, the 1st guy I took it to had it for 2 days, banged me $200 for diagnostic and tried to sell me a $2000 tune up hoping it would fix the issue. RPM found the problem in 2 hours and did not charge for diagnostic. http://www.rpmracinginc.com/ I also walked out with a prioritized list of what the car needed. The nice part is the list matched the PPI I had done in Florida before I bought the car so I knew both shops were legit. edit: Ron beat me to it. How are you Ron? Sort out your glass yet? Good Luck Scott

If you don't mind the trip to Jersey, I would recommend Powertech 973-586-3210, or Performance Plus in Oakland, NJ.

Thanks for all of your comments. I spoke to RPM racing and I will be taking my car there. I'll check back with this list as to how it goes.
Regards James

Hi James,
how about some information on your car. I live and work in Manhattan and love to help peole out with them. I am sure that much of the work you need to perform can be done with very little help. Shoot me a personal email marcw@pipeline.com... I would love to help you out. All The Best, Marc P.S.: I use Rick DeMan also at Deman Motorsport when I don't do it myself. |

Hey James, I use to use Par, until I found this guy, Mark Tashian owner of formula motor sports. This guy was the PCA president for 2 years. Give him a call, he is located in Astoria 5 minutes from 59th St bridge, 718 482 0515. Excellent wrench with tons of experiance, knows these cars like the back of hand.
