is this oil cooler thing important?

OK, now that I have your attention, seriously... this is a pic of the bottom of my oil cooler. I just bought the car and the guy who put the engine in (seller) said he would warranty it for one year etc.

so I had a wrench down the street look at the car and he said this is a big problem. restricting oil flow etc. he quoted me a price of a/b $800 to replace the cooler. the mechanic down the street told me it was crushed flat. well it is dented... but it doesn't look FLAT. your opinions please. BTW, the guy who said he will warranty the engine is not responding to any of my issues. so much for that 1 yr warranty!

It's crumped up.

To say the least, the oil cooler is on the tad side -> IMPORTANT.

But I would find the seller that sold you the car with a one year warranty and tell him to replace it.

Then spend the money on bringing the car up to par.

That crushed tube is attached to the oil cooler, but its really the feeder to the pressure side oil pump. It just happens to be mounted there.

Is it important? Only if you want to get oil into your engine.

Smart ass comments aside, you need to fix that immediately.

Those coolers are $uper expensive. You might be able to repair this one for less. Have a new aluminum tube welded into place.

Used coolers are lots cheaper, but you need to be sure it doesn't have metal chunks in it from a blown engine.

Hey Paul, I most definately agree with The Elephant Man.. You either have to replace it or find a welding shop that can replicate that tube.
What about your other cars? aren't those parts cars? yank one out of one those.

yes,

I have a spare one on an old engine. good point about it possibly having metal shards. I found a new behr oil cooler for $295.

my biggest disappointment so far is the guy who promotes his engine rebuilding and warranty on this site. he seems to have no opinion about the sqyuished tube.
