Thanks guys. I got stuck in yesterday for a few hours and started to try to find homes for all the loose wires. The more I looked and the more crappy tape I removed, the more reasons I found to further consider a brand new harness. Lots of split wires and wires poorly joined. It's a fire waiting to happen I reckon.
Also pulled out this rainbow coloured harness that was barely connected to anything. Assume that was related to the radio that the previous owner attempted to install. Left side. The white wire is not normally there. (that's the wire for my radar detector). You can get a sense for how the factory did their wiring sheaths.
