How much lighter are SSI's than standard post 74 exchanges with cat?
I'm considering upgrading to SSIs and was looking for another benefit.
Thanks, Noel |
I'm going to have this upgrade done to my SC in the next week or two.
As far as weight goes, I don't know but from my research on the SSI superstars... it would not only be a lightweight benefit, there would be a performance gain also. Not to mention, making it easier to do exhaust valve adjustments getting rid of the cat. lol The quality of 'real' SSIs are superb, so I've heard. |
I measured ~14lb delta . . .though that was w/ a gutted cat-convertor. . . .the ceramic guts are pretty much the same material as brick!

This is a question that I have been wondering as well, and I forgot to weigh all of the old stuff before I chucked part of it.
Island, which muffler are you running w/ new set-up? |
I did this yesterday w/ headers instead of SSI's and I can vouch for how much they lighten the car. hehe and now my clutch cables doesn't bind  Sometimes don't you just hate PO's?

speeder --painted SS dansk, single out, stock dia. tailpipe.
also, the old muffler was also rattling (read: lightened like an early car) It would be interesting to weigh new stock. |
SSIs are mostly used to backdate SCs and to provide a longer laster alternative to the rust prone regular steel early HEs.....but they are about 20% lighter....
