1967 Porsche 911 SW Targa Engine number missing

1967 911, Vin is 500088, Color is 6606, original Mileage 69754, Webers

Engine number according to 911 Service booklet is 911364, Sept. 1967

Fast forward to 2019: We found no engine number, no type number,
nothing grinded of.

There are service and repair records but nothing regarding engine failure - swap.
Guess if it has been done under warranty, there would be no bills.

Upon engine disassembling, all head's read 6-66 and with bad exhaust guides.

So if this is a replacement engine - the original engine must have had a catastrophic
failure very early on, possible in 1967 already.

Is that possible ?? What are you thinking ??

Greetings, Harold

You need to get a kardex, if it was done under warranty it may be noted there.

If it was done under warranty, then the case would be numbered. It have have an AT# or a KD# if replaced formally. This does sound like a replacement case done outside of warranty. On aluminum cases look for the casting dates under the pulley; this will provide an indication of the replacement date.

Engine without number

Turns out the blank engine case date is 65, all other parts are 66.
What is the difference in the blocks 1965 to 1966 ?
Greetings, Harold

Google word translation came up with this:

Naue DelrinLagerschole eingb.AM111WG.66

"Neat Delrin storage rack eingb.AM111WG.66"

Without speaking German - Can I be reading that as a "storage shelf engine from 1966" ?

Engine

This German wording means:

Delrin main bearings installed.

Well for this the engine needs to be completely disassembled. Maybe they found
a casting problem with the case and to be save used then a case they had in stock.

Working on engines myself, I would have done the same.

Greetings, Harold
