SSI Identification

I searched and wasn't able to find the information to solve this mystery.

I listed a set of stainless heat exchangers on the for sale board
SSI Thin Flange Heat Exchangers

Someone asked for a picture of the SSI markings on the bottom and to my surprise there are none.

I've had these for at least 15 years. Any idea if someone was making reproductions that long ago? Were all of the SSI heat exchangers marked on the bottom?

I have another set with markings and I sat them side-by-side and I can't see a single difference in the design or manufacturing.

I didn't think any of the early or current reproductions had the tight welds. They look like the welds on my other SSIs and are much closer together the Dansk ones.

Any ideas? I want to make sure I know what these are before I sell them to someone.

AFIK, no markings. The two sets I had, had none.

They appear to be clean and not screwed with. The potential buyer is being a dick. Unless you are asking more than what Dansk is asking you should have other buyers quickly.

ive had two sets, one on a current car, and a set I cut the heater boxes off of years ago for a simple set of stainless headers and never remember anything facing downward. does this perspective buyer have the cred you do, or did he read an old thread and is asking big boy questions in little boy trousers?

John, my SSI’s from that era does not have stampings too. Your set looks like the original John Daniel SSI’s. GLWS.

SSI vs Dansk or other brands

have a look at SSI brand - here is a for sale ad - Set of Very Nice Thin Flange SSI Heat Exchangers.

Note the number of quality spot welds on the SSI brand and it has serial numbers.

John was proud of his outstanding quality product. Bruce Anderson cut up a set to compare how the internal welds were shaped and the quality of the weldments. Compared to the lesser quality (Dansk and others) who had non fitted meet ups - not equal from both sides leaving internal overhangs at each joint - while the SSI brand had matched, blended and complete smooth welds - inside the tubes.

Compare the number of spot welds and it's easy to see which is which from the outside.
The Dansk and other knock-offs have spot welds almost 1/2" between. SSI have far closer spacing.

All SSI brand when John has the company came with serial numbers stamped. It really bothered him that folks referred to all the other stainless knock offs by his Brand Name -SSI.. if they didn't have serial numbers they were knock offs.

Thank you so much for that clarification Fleming. I was that potential buyer who asked a simple question regarding SSI serial #’s and I was called a dick and a little boy with no knowledge. I’ve been burned before with false advertisement and when I complained about it, I was told, “You should’ve done your research.” I asked questions regarding the exchangers to do my due diligence not to offend anyone.
