911 SC Euro Tachometer question

I've an '83 Euro 930-10 with a US 930-16 tachometer marked for the US model with redline showing at 6200 I believe.

The '82/83 930-10 Euro Porsche spec manual says do not rev above 7k rpm with the cut off at 6800 +/- 200 rpm.

Is the Euro Tach marked differently reflecting that different rpm?

BTW...peak HP/T is made at 5900 rpm.

I am fairly confident my tach is original to my 83 euro purchased in Europe and imported 15 years later. I dont know the tach part number.

So they didn't adjust the tach face to reflect the different limits....I suspected as much as I've never seen one so adjusted. Cost saving I guess....and until the change in Porsche leadership the 911's were going away.

When I have my Tach redone I'll do so tho….put it at 6800 rpm as it should be.

Thanks....btw...I have our cars Porsche Tech Manual in a PDF...if you'd like a copy PM me.

I’ve found a couple of tachs with 6800 rpm redline. One variant is from an 76-77 930, the early cars didn’t have a boost gauge in the tach, they were fitted with a boost gauge where the clock is typically fitted.

The other variety is a few years later, the club sport cars also had the 7800 rpm redline.

The tach on my 81 row SC is stock and is the same as shown above. I always suspected cost savings as well since Porsche management didn’t expect the 911 to be around much longer. It always bothered me that 6800 ignition cut is so deep into the red. I had plans of shipping my tach to NHS to have it changed to 6800. But then we had 2 kids and the 911 has pretty much sat untouched for 4 years. Oh well, some day...
