Grinding #4 Intake Runner, O.K.?
Is there any reason I shouldn't grind off the "step" on the #4 intake runner?
I welded a tab to a later aluminum A/C mounting bracket and drilled it to fit my 1979 SC Targa. It's the mount that accommodates a Denso compressor. I think it's called a 'turbo-mount' but I'm not sure. The mounting bracket fits perfectly, but when I mount the Denso compressor, it bangs up against the "step" on the #4 intake runner. I only need 1/2" more clearance so I won't have to grind into the tube of the intake runner. I can get that 1/2" by re-shaping the 'step.' Has anyone else done this? Is there any reason not to reshape the 'step?' What's it for anyway? Lastly, I do have a spare set of intake runners, in case something goes awry. As always, I appreciate the help!

Thanks Dr. J!
I was pretty sure there was no reason not to, but it's always good to check. I appreciate your help!

Top of the Morning To Ye P!
Good advice! All done now and reinstalled. I cut the step off on the band-saw and ground the rest leaving a little extra. The Denso compressor fits beautifully now!
