Oil tank adapter
Hi,
I am in the middle of putting a 2.4T MFI motor into my 68 Targa. My question is in regards to the oil line from the oil tank to the oil cooler. The 2.4 takes a soft hose and the older style 68 tank is setup with a threaded connection. Does anyone make an adapter for this or will I need to replace the oil tank with a later style? Thanks, Alan 206aa _______________________________ 68 911 Targa 2.4T MFI (hopefully installed soon) |

I do not know the direct answer but you may be able to make up an adapter by taking the tank to a hose shop and have them see what parts they have. It sounds like you need a way to connect a hose to this tank. You should be able to get a fitting that fits in the threaded hole and a hose barb to attach the hose. If necesary, they can braze the two parts together to give you a good adapter.
Also, if I remember correctly, the other end of the hose is clamped to a hose barb already so all you may need to do is trim the hose or, alternatively, have the hose shop provide a suitable length of appropriate hose. I needed to do something similar to solve my fuel filter problem and it turned out the fitting cost me about $12.00. Good luck. ![]()

Thanks Harry, I will start looking around for a good shop to drag the oil tank to. It would be nice if I didn't have to replace the oil cooler

My mechanic made my hose by removing the metal fitting from my old hose, and welding a sleeve on to fit inside a newer 'S' hose. My hose connects a newer oil tank (73?) to an older '71 cooler with threads. The '71 tank had a smaller capacity, and I had oil starvation problems cornering on the track. If this is for a track only car, I would consider using a newer tank. A '72 tank will not fit, and I had to cut-out the mounting area/engine compartment to fit the later tank in my '71. It is not 'bolt in'
