Repainting brass window frames
I need to repaint the brass window frames which have been stripped. Can anyone advise on the best painting process for these. These were black from an 85 targa.
|
AFAIK, window frames were chromed brass only through 1967. Yours should be black anodized aluminum.

Nope they are definitely brass section and were factory painted black. I have stripped some of the old paint and it appears that it does not have a primer/undercoat either. I have photos but need to learn how to add to the thread.

Oh this car was originally delivered in Britain.

On my previous '84 coupe, the window frame was aluminum. The black finish on mine had no primer either. I suspect the original finish is a baked powder coat finish.
I would normally refinish the same way, having them powder coated again. If you wish to paint them yourself, the process would be no different than any other paint on metal. Sand lightly, prime and paint. |
I’m upgrading my 76 912 to pop-out style, and I’m using the brass frames. When I first got them, they were really beat up, but I took them to a local chrome shop, and they did a great job refinishing them.
Haven’t fit them yet, but hoping the chrome matches the rest of the polished Aluminium trim. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fc07a500ca.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0af7a51c75.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I suggest Ceracote. Look up the coating properties.
