Recaro SE w/ Stock Sliders

BLUF: Stock sliders bolt up to Recaro slider holes. If you have a VERY low clearance stubby allen wrench, you can make them work w/ the stock mounting holes.

I purchased some Recaro SEs for my 1984 911 coupe a few months back and was under the assumption that I needed some form of adapter or mounting bracket to go along w/ the double locking sliders they came with. While that was true, the Wedge bracket I bought for my TABBED Recaro sliders made the seat WAY too high. It sat 1.5" over the stock height, which was already too high imo (note: i'm 5'10" w/ longer legs).

So after a few days of feeling it out, I decided this was not going to work and wanted to see if the stock sliders would bolt up to the Recaros...they do! The challenging part was bolting the sliders to the floor b/c there was very low clearance b/t the seat and the slider and the slider wouldn't allow the seat to give full access to the floor bolt. After trying lots of different tools, I found that these 2 work and allow you to fully tighten the seats to the floor.

I saw all these threads of lengths people go to to get aftermarket seats into their cars and I never once saw this as a solution; I felt I had to post my experience to potentially save some folks some time. Good luck!

Lipstick Sport Seats

Hey Integral,

Lol, I've had this challenge for years.

I've a bit of a seat addiction, I'm in therapy for it So I'm constantly pulling my seats in and out trying different ones.

I'm settled on a pair of Lipstick 81-84 sport seats but this is a great help.

Post a pic of your Recaros installed?

Thanks for the post.

Scott

Thanks - that's very helpful information. I'll probably put Recaros in my car before too long but in the meantime I have a Flofit to try out that has the same bolt pattern, and I just *happen* to have that exact set of Bondhus wrenches that I got for bike use.

I went through this same problem after installing a roll-bar in my SC.

I ground down a spare allen wrench on a bench grinder for the task. That allen wrench is now labeled with painter tape as "911 seats".

I have SE's. I made a tool out of a 10mm socket for the front two bolts. After the fronts are out, the rear two bolts are easy. Yes, they are on the stock sliders.

yea, it's really the front 2 that are the issue. the rears can be "massaged" much easier. i also had some 10mm bolts that i tried, but couldn't get a socket on them so i stuck w/ the stock allens...

I took a peek and noticed I've got standard hex-head bolts rather than socket-head bolts mounting my sliders to the car. Are these going to be impossible to use if I put Recaros in? If so I'd like to have socket-head bolts lined up. I can only assume that on the stock seats there is clearance to put a socket and ratchet on it, but not on the Recaros.

funny you say that b/c i had both on the stock seats (not my doing). i ended up using all hex head b/c they make installing the sliders to the floor easier and it's easier to have ALL the same bolt IMO (seat to slider and slider to base).

You will want to ensure the bolts you are using are the proper grade. There's a couple threads on this over the years, and one or more post from Grady Clay about it as well.

The correct bolts are socket cap, low profile, and 12.9 grade.

I Searched (Seat bolt replacement)

When I replaced my seat bolts, I ensured they are 12.9 grade. The socket cap and low profile as well important when changing your seats and seat mounts / sliders.

Note, I found the correct bolts at my local ACE hardware store. Fastenal and McMaster Carr also carry them.
