Fuel in oil.... followup

I posted over a month ago about my '69 911S with 2.7 RS MFI engine puking gasoline into the oil in such quantity that it was raising the oil level and forcing it out the breather.

I spoke with Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection about this. He said he did not think it could be the injection pump and that there really was no way internally for the pump to leak on that scale.

I then suspected the problem was the cold start solenoid or the mixture thermostat causing it to run far too rich washing fuel past the rings. However... I still had problems with this diagnosis because the car did not throw black smoke and ran great.

I took the car to Internation Performance in Roswell GA to be repaired. Kerry Singley told me they would fix it or charge me nothing. That was about a month ago.

I spoke with Kerry today. They have tested the pump for leaks (attached the oil return to a seperate bottle... no fuel leaking out) and they tested the starting solenoid and the termostat thing.... no leaks apparent anywhere.

They suspect a bad injector is pushing fuel through the engine all the time. However, they were unable to rig a means of testing the injectors.

A bad injector sounds like a likely cause of my problem. However.... how to test this and fix the problem is a delima. Kerry does not have any means of testing the injectors. He is trying to track someone down locally to do it, but so far no direct luck.

So, currently im still stuck. All of the other modifications I had planned for the car are on hold and Im already missing driving events

Any ideas how I should proceed? Where should I send the injectors? Should I just buy new ones and hope that was the problem? Im pretty much stuck at this point.

Terry,

Try a Bosch diesel fuel injection certified shop ... if you can find one. They use a pressure test pump that looks like it is based on a brake master cylinder ... to test patterns, and operating pressure at 230 psi or so.

You could build a test pump from a VW bus or other master cylinder ... but it would take some special fabrication and fittings.

assenmacher specialty tools makes a tester for mechanical injectors, not terribly pricey, which most snap-on dealers distibute. I've used mine on both gas and diesel since my mercedes days...

Well, I spoke with Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection again. He seemed doubtful that the problem is an injector. He bases this on the fact that if an injector was leaking fuel past all the time it probably would not atomize fuel well enough for the car to run properly. It would have a miss. My car runs great... it just dumps tons of fuel into the oil.

Its beginning to look impossible to diagnose. Im coming to understand why people junked these systems and convert to carbs. I'm going to move ahead with trying to find some way of testing the injectors in the hope I will find some bad problem... but its starting to look like a "replace everything and hope that fixes it" issue.

This thing is turning into a boat. You know what boat stands for: Break Out Another Thousand.
