R compound tyre question

I am competing in a 6 day tarmac rally in May in my RS replica. I am entered in a classic division and have a max tyre profile of 55 series. The car has 15x7 and 8 Fuchs. Anyone know of any 55 series R compound tyres in 225, 215 or 205?

Thanks - Ryan

ps: go here for the event http://www.targa.org.au/ (considered by many to be about the best of uts type in the world, Porsche factory brings out at least one car out every year)

It may pay to phone around the tire places. Tires the US guys have, us Australaisan guys don't have and vice versa. First call your friendly Bridgestone dealer?

Does the Bridgestone not come in a 55?

Try Dunlop:

http://www.stuckey.com.au/new/racetyre.htm#StreetLegal

The entire (more or less) NZ targa field used Dunlop D01Js.

Though why you are restricted to 55% and not 50 I have no idea!!! I thought it was always 50% (it is over here).

Of course with the noteable exception of the New Zealand event . No pace notes over here, but then again we aren't a bunch of namby-pamby pussies!!!!!!!! Just kidding

The Kiwi event looks like a smash-em-up! Isn't the rule anyone who finishes the thing with their car mostly intact gets a trophy???

ps: I have previously used Bridgestone RE540S and love them but they only come in 215/50 and 22/50

Yokohama make A-032R in 55 profile to suit 15" wheels.

I think that was the Australian entrants trophy I can't talk. My car expired...

Hmmm, the Kumho v70a is in really restricted sizes too.

Cam - I've often wondered, without pace notes, what does the navigator do in Targa Kiwi (apart from try to not cr@p his pants)? Do they supply course books or any form of guidance?

Mostly they try not to cr@p their pants!

Um lets see, they have a route book, which has:

- the stage start
- the stage end
- intersections
- one lane bridges
- a few cautioned corners
- you are notified of other cautions (high drops, slippery bits, etc)

A ten km stage might have anywhere from 3 entries to 30. Mostly just intersections!!!!

The navigator also usually calls the right hand corners. Usually "OPENS! No, *****, tightens, er sorry". Some drivers don't like that!

And finally they look after the time card. I'm trying to convince Anna (my wife to be) to be my navigator because she looks good in a race suit.

(edit) the route book also has all the touring stages, of course. And a form to fill out when you withdraw. Doh!

I used the route book last year in Classic Adelaide - never again. We are buying professional pace notes for Targa Tas.

Nothing quite like barrelling down a skinny two lane twissty road at 100mph and your navigator says "nothing in the book for the next 2 kilometres...drive 'em as you see 'em"
