Car cocoon
I will be storing a couple cars this winter and wonder what members experiences have been with zippered car cocoons. They are offered by a variety of manufactures. lay it flat, drive onto half of it and fold the other half over and zip it up. I am not worried about temperature, as all I want to achieve is water-proof and mice-proof. Vehicle will be stored inside cocoon and inside building. Forget dryer sheets and mothballs as they DO NOT work.

I used one with my 356 in my unheated garage during New England winters. It worked very well and lasted for 5 years before I quit using it.

Importing animals seems like too much of a hassle. (Paperwork, quarantine,...)
Just buy a cat locally and don’t feed it too much. ![]()

I looked at lining my 2-car with plastic sheet , and making a huge carcoon using portable air conditioners with dehumidify function .
All you need to do is seal enough to have positive pressure . Won’t keep out mice though .... |

Only if you write “No Mice Allowed” on the plastic.

Car cocoon
Wow Fred! That is pretty much a testament to success. Do you remember the brand or source? Prices run from $250-500+...and I would like for it to last several years.

I talked to one guy who has four of them for his Porsche's in MN. Late fall they go in, early spring they come out. He swears by them.

Car Cocoon
Narrowed it down to a Rhino Systems product....moisture, dust and rodent prevention, what am I missing? They sound pretty solid...each cover is 40 lbs.
Unless I hear bad soon, I am going to order two.

There is a huge storage building near here that has several different types of cars in those cocoon things, but they all have some sort of blower fan attached to them... I have never looked that close at the mechanism. Look at the black car in this website. There is over 100 cars in this building with that type..

A great way to keep the salt air off the car.
Edit: I just saw your location, so please disregard my earlier comment. |

I used a Car Bag/Car Jacket in my garage 2 blocks from the ocean in Florida for a muscle car and then my 911TT for years. It worked fine. You need a car cover on your car to protect it from the Car Jacket because it's basically a tarp type material with a big zipper. I learned to vacuum out as much air as I could with a shop vac before finally closing the last few inches of the zipper.
There was one hiccup. Make SURE your car is absolutely, positively dry before zippering up the bag. I usually washed my muscle car before I stored it. One year I must not have let it dry off sufficiently. When I returned in the Fall, the interior was covered in mold. A dry car and Damprid is a must.

I always store my cars in my garage by putting a large piece of plastic on the floor to block condensation from the ground. And I cut several bars of Irish Spring soap that I distribute around the car (folk wisdom says that it keeps rodents away). Steel wool stuffed in the tailpipe. A cheap alternative to the cocoon, but works well enough (in my urban setting, rodent prevention is pretty much precautionary). It seems to me that the chief advantage to the plastic cocoon would be keeping out the humidity, but NYNick said, it only works if the car is absolutely dry before zipping it up.

The problem with those cocoons can be if the building you store the car in is damp it will suck in all that moisture.

Cocoons
I am at 8200 ft in CO and we don't have much humidity. I will store the cars dry. ..and expect them to stay that way. I am most concerned about moisture, dust and rodents.
