New Guy/Car Introduction

I'm not new to Porsches in general, I recently have owned four 914s in a row and a 912, I used to play with 356s.

My new car is a '78 Euro SC Targa, that I traded for. It was a former race car, full cage, some really nice chassis parts; Tarrett, Von shocks, etc.

My recent thread was a success as far as you guys helping, so I thought I'd introduce myself.

My current issue is cleaning up the wiring under the dash, particularly around the heater controls. The wires with bulb sockets appear to be present, I'd love to have a wiring diagram of this area. The lighter wiring has been chopped to add an interesting unit that was mounted behind the radio block-off plate. It was wired with alligator clips and miles of black electrical tape. I've seen worse, but it gives me some satisfaction getting everything tidy on the dash.

I'll have a lot of questions, please bear with me. I'm a quick learner. This is the car:

Here is the factory schematic. Print and paste together in 2 sections then get it copied and blown up.

Car looks nice. The gauge lamp circuit is an Achilles heel for the 911’s.
Search for threads on installing an in line fuse at the light switch on the black/blue wire for the circuit as it is unfused, and has melted a lot of dash harnesses.

Hi, Lawrence. I used to post on 914world before I sold mine so I recognized your username. Bought a few parts from you too. Nice car!!

+1 on timmy2's suggestion on adding inline fuses. Here are a couple good threads (Gerry is the man). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/838633-protecting-unfused-wiring-lights.html

Hey guys, Larmo63, Lawrence is a great guy and true Porsche addict. I met him through 914World.com and have talked met and talked with him a a few different Porsche gatherings over the last couple of years. I was sad to see Lawrence traded his very nicely sorted 914 with a great running six in it for another Porsche. I am hopeful he will miss his 6 and buy another to keep his new 911 company. Cheers.

Okay, front parking/directional lights are different brightness (from each other.)

I suspect that the lower wattage of the double filament bulb is supposed to be on the 5w setting when on and 21w setting when blinking.

Right?

The new bulb I put in last month has already burned out, so can I switch the wires inside the fixture behind the reflector?

Sorry for the questions.

Wiring up there has been modified, Lawrence. A euro SC would normally have a single filament 21W as a blinker, and the parking light would have been a small 5w bulb inside the H4 headlight (aka 'city lights').

So that tells me that the lighting wiring has been modified in that area as well.

Awesome car!

Love the color and the look.

I have the 5w bulbs in the headlights, but shouldn't the parking lights be on at the same time as the headlights?

They were before the (brighter of the two) light burned out, the other one is working.

This car is Fern Green #273 9-1 from the factory, and from my research, they didn't make many in this shade.

Not on a euro model, as built. The turn signals in the bumper in a euro car are not the same as US, the bulbs are single filament 21w. No parking light function in the bumper lights at all. The issue is that in Europe, parking lights are required to be white, never amber. So the parking lights are in the headlight and are white. The turn signals must be amber, and are in the bumper.

If your car has 2-filament bulbs in the bumper lights, some wiring has been added.

I just think I need to dig in to the fixture and reverse some wires.

Awesome looking Targa!
