Leaking cam oil restrictors

I Have a 1988 Carrera with cam oil restrictors. I have had a persistent leak coming from the base of the right side restrictor. No matter what I do, loctite 271 or none, new copper washers each time, not over tightening, over-tightening, you name it. When I drive the car hard, it leaks like a sieve. In normal street driving, I don’t see that as much. It might bleed a little bit, but nothing like when I push the car on the track. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hi Tom,

i'm having the same issues for a while now, but i think it is fixed now, with new alu washers and a couple of tries with torqueing them up.

whatever you do: do not overtorque them or you will strip the threads in the block...i chased the threads, cleaned them up, and used new fittings with 100% intact threads and i'm ok for now.

good luck,
Jan

PS sometimes these buggers also leak at the crimps between the rubber part and the hard part. make sure it doesn't come from there. not always eay to see.

I would guess that the mating surfaces are either scarred or not square to one another

The leak area is the black area you have indicated. I am going to give it a try with aluminum and see if that helps, I've been using copper. I also may put a brand new restrictor in as well.

I had tried drilling the existing out to 3mm to lower pressure in that area and that lasted for two sessions and then on session 3, 4th lap it started leaking again. Really tired of getting meat-balled all the time! Thanks for the advice all three of you!
