getting ready to remove injectors: help

I'm getting up enough courage to remove the injectors for cleaning. I think I've identified all attachments to remove the fuel rail. Am I on the right track? Any help is appreciated.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1574055585.jpg

Yes the fuel rail is a loop drivers side is the feed. do your filter while your in there

I just did mine but did not have to undo the rear fuel line connections to the rails. I undid the front and the rail mounting bolts and other stuff like the left side connector bracket then just tilted it up at the front and disconnected the connectors and wiggled out the injectors. Mine came out easy and I had Mr Injector service them.

Did the filter at the same time

Make sure to squirt some PB Blaster or other slippery oil at the base of the injectors (where they fit into the intake) before attempting removal. Makes pulling them out MUCH easier!

Have noticed the speed and reference sensor wires in your one picture... the two silver ones on left hand side (see your disconnect D3 arrow)... the exterior insulation is totally worn off exposing the silvery wrapping underneath. You may have noticed crumbled insulation in the engine compartment from them. You may want to replace those sensors along with the O2 sensor when you get a chance....they're old..... don't want to get stranded some day. Big cause of "no start" problems with an older 3.2.

Thank you everyone for the tips. Well, I was able to remove the rail with injectors. I don’t see a metal clip holding the injector. Am I blind? Should I just pull the injector away from the rail? I’m getting close! Thank you for the help.

Removal complete!

Actually wasn’t that bad. These injectors look like they could use some love.

Clips AWOL?

Teutonics 11-21-2019 05:43 AM

Yeah, your clips are missing... you'll need to order a set for reinstall.

Who needs them. Fuel rails bolt the injectors down so they have nowhere to go. Got rid of my clips years ago when I realized how silly they were.

Good point... I hadn't thought of that. Although they're nice for removal so they all come out as an assembly, if I broke or lost one, I probably wouldn't be concerned about it when reassembling... except that I'm totally anal-retentive and I wouldn't be able to sleep at night thinking about it! LOL!

Keep us posted on what you learn in regards to the condition of your injectors and how much improvement you notice after the service. Am considering doing the same with mine - 1985 model year.

Will any AFM adjustments need to be made after reinstall/replacement?

Hunter, would you please explain your process you followed to remove them. Take any pics of the rail removal?
