911 T Electronic Ignition Question
Greetings Porschephiles.
I've got a 70 T with a Mirelli Distributor complete with points. In a fit of madness I bought an after market electronic ignition replacement for the points. Unfortunately the instructions aren't clear as to where the wires go.......there are only 2, a red one that I will assume is positive and a black one that goes to ground according to the instructions. My quandry is where exactly on the positive side do I connect the redwire? The IFU says the black goes to the negative side of the coil. I tried connecting the red to the ignition wire going to the points but no spark. Any help would be appreciated. Dirty Marty, Fallbrook, CA ![]() |

The electrical connection to the points is the negative, or ground connection. Positive goes to the coil "+".
I can't tell you where your connections should go though, I have no idea what replacement electronic ignition you have.

On my 70T, I swapped out the Marelli dizzy with a Bosch 008, I installed the Pertronix from our host, mine is wired. Red to keyed hot, middle fuse on the 3 fuse block, Black to Neg on the coil as the CDI fires the optical pickup.

I went through the same thing a few years ago when I installed pertronix.
Actually it is easy and logical. The pertronix is electrical and has a transistor and other components inside that need 12 volts DC switched. This is the RED wire. You need to find a source of 12vdc for that. The other wire, the black wire is the points signal to the CDI. The same connection as before front the distributor to the points. I know the instrutions with the unit are not too clear. This is one of the best mods for the money for a 911 with points. Also the CDI is weak. 50 year old design with 50 year old parts. Many great upgrades available, better CDI was a great improvment in my 1973. here is the PERTRONIX wiring diagram for the 911. ![]()

Thanks Guys, I'm still unclear. Do I connect the red wire to the 2 wire connection on the outside of the distributor that the old points were connected to or the center fuse on the 3 fused box......?
It's a Pertronix electronic ignition Thanks Dirty Marty |

On my 70T, the center fuse on the 3 fuse block is 12 volt switched, only hot with key on, I have the red wire of my Pertonix attached there. On the Aft side of the fuse.

UH..red wire is switched 12 vdc hook it up to switched 12vdc.....use a voltmeter to figure this out. It should be the center fuse. There is NO 12VDC coming out of the distributor. BLACK wire is now the same as the old points wire. Hook it to "C" on the CDI.

Ok , I think I've got it........red to center fuse on the 3 fuse box and the black to the wires that connected to the points on the Distributor. If I'm wrong let me know........thanks Gentlemen
