Shifting coupler adjustment
I have about adjusted my coupler to make it as good as it is going to be. My only problem now is that when going to 3rd at high RPMs I get a little grind of gears. I just want to tweak the coupler now because everything else is doing good. Which way do I need to adjust the coupler to shift to 3rd without nicking the gear?

With the tunnel cover off you should be able to see how the coupler moves when you move the shifter. Judge from the movement what adjustments you need to do. I did a static adjustment this way while feeling the shifting, and it was just perfect on the first drive. With the shifter boot off you should be able to see 5th and reverse engage (tab clearing and locking) so you canget a feel for too much one way or the other.
Others may have a different method, but his worked for me. Good luck |

I took me about half an hour and about 20 tries to get the shift coupler just right. I found that as you get closer and closer, you just make finer and finer adjustments. My shifting is now near perfect. It can get frustrating the first time you do it, though.

Hmmm, I assumed that since 3rd gear doesnt come close to the shift gate, it should not really be affected by the coupler adjustment. Am I off here? Obviously 1-2 & 5-R have to be on horizontally and vertically, but once those are on, is there any further adjustment for 3-4???

I'm curious about my last statement here. Am I off or not? Please let me know, thanks.
