how to store whaletail decklid
I have just completed a swap of a whaletail for a non-whaletail decklid. I want to keep the whaletail with it's decklid because it's original to the car. But how best to store it for the long-term? I'm planning on putting it up in my attic but I didn't want to leave it exposed up there. Although dry, there's evidence of flies &/ or bees not to mention insulation fibers etc. So I'm planning on putting the 2 parts (whaletail and its decklid in 2 sealed plastic bags. Is that OK for the longterm?

Over-head storage........
Jim, I would recommend an over-head space to store the whale tail deck lid like what Ivan did, but will cover it with some plastic cover to prevent dust accumulation while in storage. I had an OEM Iroc whale tail that I stored in the attic and the rubber section was chewed by a raccoon. Had I stored it in the garage ceiling, I would have not lost a $1K plus worth of accessory. I like the idea of an old blanket/ comforter that's not harsh to the finish but keeps bugs and dust away...

The best way to store it is to put it back on the car, and a added bonus is that the car will look much better than with a no-tail lid (a 911 is supposed to be a sports car, after all - even the naturally aspirated ones, so I hear).

![]() I change tails from time to time and they hang on the wall when not on the car. Good wall art. Dan

More decklids sustain damage off these cars than on.

Mine lives in the house over the fireplace. A little splash of colour brightens up the place- even the wife likes it!
