Pigtail on battery terminal

Went to start my 3.2 Carrera this morning and found it had a flat battery as I’d forgotten to reconnect the CTEK trickle charger a few weeks ago.

The CTEK won’t recover a completely flat battery- it needs to see a few volts for whatever reason.

I then went for my Costco ‘Power Station’ for a jump start only to remember that the positive battery terminal is well nigh impossible to access with the large battery clip on the power station.

My previous work around for this was to use a spare battery lead pigtail attached to the positive post with the 10mm eye, but I’ve always removed this for fear of it shorting out on the chassis.

This morning I decided to make the pigtail a permanent feature. I removed the battery clamp that was on the end of the pigtail and slid a short length of polypropylene tube over the exposed wires and clamped it with a hose clip. This arrangement seems robust enough not to have to worry about it short circuiting.

End of newsflash!

Interesting solution. I would probably melt the end of the tubing to seal it because with my luck a stray paper clip would find its way in somehow and cause a short!

I would suggest buying an end cap to seal that baby up until access is needed. #Amazon
