Great way to remove trim paint: shout out to Kontak

Finally got around to tackling the PO trim paint on my 67.....

Remembered a post from Bob Kontak on using Jasco paint remover I got from Lowes.
Goes on like a gel so it stays put. Wait 15 minutes and the paint slides off with no damage to the trim beneath....

Well, the stuff is pure magic. I still have a lot of work ahead of me, but this stuff will prob save me 20 hours of manual labor with the plastic scraper.

You're using that while the trim is still on the car? Be sure to rinse it very, very well after. There will possibly be a small amount of that stuff that gets into spaces around the trim that might lift some of your paint in the area.

I like the stuff. Only reason I found it is because other brands at Lowes were not as effective.

Yeah, I was very careful. Since it has a thick gel consistency it stays put very well.

I used bronze wool on mine. It took the paint right off without much effort and didn't scratch the chrome underneath. Took roughly an hour to do the entire car and zero worrying about using chemicals.

Was that on an original finish or PO applied?

I tried that (and a few other methods) and the paint wouldn't budge much. I wonder if the coating on mine was powder coated or something?

I know this is an old thread but I am hoping someone can shed some light for me. I used the bronze wool and it didn't work. I bought the fine one, did you use the coarse one.

I then tried the paint remover from this thread, but it took a far amount of applications on one post, and I still didn't get it off. Maybe its because its the factory black?

Just looking for some ideas on how to move forward. I hate the black trim, lol. Especially on a Schwarz Metallic car.

Thanks in advance.

MEK is the only solvent that will remove powder coating
