Rear only coilovers
Planning long way ahead(I have to do that) my suspension plans.
Car is a 78 SC will be coming in at about 2200lbs(Or a bit lighter if I dont backdate it,and my mate can get a move on with carbon panels!) Due to the fussiness of setting up rear suspension, Im considering coil overs in rear. This is not a track car. It would seem the font of knowledge here, agrees that an ER type spring plate system is helpful to adjust and fine tune ride heights.Im sure it is.Torsion bars are rotted to hell too, as are rear shocks. When I crunch the numbers, it will cost less if I opt for coilovers,(removing torsion bars) by the time I purchase spring plates, torsion bars and the relevant hardware. I know Ive got to strengthen rear mounts.Car is a shell.I can weld.No problems. I feel like a newbie to this stuff. All my previous work, has been to factory spec. All this "dark art " stuff, im not familiar with! I could easily convert front Boge struts, with some machining. Yes or no guys.......... Last edited by coomo; 12-01-2019 at 10:18 AM.. |

I had contemplated doing the same (coil overs in the rear only) and convinced myself otherwise (especially for a street car). Setting up the rear suspension with torsion bars really wasn't all that fussy once I took time to understand it.
Here are a couple of other relevant threads on the topic: Your Input: Front Torsion Bars, Rear Coilovers Only? torsion or coilovers? Help me understand coilover suspensions. |

the worst is taking it apart the first time, especially if its ben together for ages... but this you have to do anyway, so not a factor.
