Chirp from left side of dash near vent

I've been trying to chase down a very annoying chirp that's coming from the left side of the dash. Car is a 1984 Carrera Coupe. It's not crickets...

I pulled the plastic vent, knee pad and the headlight and hazard switches and went for a drive and it's still there. What's weird is if I place even the slightest amount of pressure on the left side of the dash (with or without the knee pad) the sound disappears.

Can't really get a good look inside where the vent attaches and am wondering if anyone might have any experience with this or if there is a loose screw or something in that area. I searched and saw where folks had a mystery squeak or similar, but couldn't find where those folks posted a resolution. I told my wife the noise is bugging me so much that I considered selling the car. Glad she talked me out of it but now I must fix it.

No radio in the car either so can't turn it up to drown out the noise.

Hey there. Although I have an earlier car, you might want to check a couple of areas that ended up being the source of my squeak. Check the tightness of the mounting on the foot-well vents (two nuts each accessible from the frunk. This of course requires removal of the panel in the frunk that protects the defrost/ventilation blower.
And while you are in there, also check the flexible pipes that connect the blower unit to the defrost vents. Give the one on the driver's side a wiggle to see if you replicate the noise. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion, kb911. I think I've tracked down the source of the noise and will work on it this weekend.

So... what was the source? I have similar...

Pretty certain it's coming from the metal vent that's part of the dash. When the plastic vent is removed, you can see two attachment points on the metal vent facing you. Looks like a third attachment point is further back and somewhat inaccessible. The noise seems to be coming from this area, which I am guessing was welded to the dash at the factory.

I have pics but can't post them for some reason. Will try again later.

I had the same chirp which turned out to be the door light button which was sort of arcing on and off when the door was closed. Once removed and cleaned up with contact cleaner and compressed air it went away.

Interesting...in the last season of driving, my '78 Targa has developed the same little sound, same location

Found the source of the chirp! The 10mm mounting bolts for the driver's side door stop were loose. I tightened them and no more noise. Am planning on replacing the door stop and was investigating the door to see if the surrounding metal was damaged. It isn't thank goodness. Decided to check the mounting bolts and sure enough they were loose. Anyway wanted to follow up since some threads don't have the solution posted
